Since November 1, 2020 the City of Griffin Specialized Investigations Unit (SIU)/ Criminal Apprehension and Gang Enforcement (C.A.G.E.) Unit has been steadfast in their pursuance of criminals.
The SIU/CAGE Unit put their priorities on weapons, narcotics and gang members. As a result, these officers have made 70 arrests for narcotics and weapon charges, seized 13 handguns, four vehicles and $16,935.00 dollars in 4 weeks. Several of those arrested were from cities other than Griffin.
Drug seizure amounts during this operation vary from 555.1 gross grams of marijuana to 149.37 gross grams of methamphetamine as well as more than 40 suspected dosage units of ecstasy (MDMA). The drugs and weapons were removed from the streets of Griffin along with the suspected offenders.
A stolen vehicle was recovered as well.
Chief Yates stated “If you feel like you can come to the City of Griffin and participate in gang and drug activity, think again. The officers are dedicated in their efforts and you won’t be home for Christmas. You can expect Santa to deliver your lumps of coal and your switches to the Spalding County Jail”.
