The study gathered input from campus stakeholders and there was a demonstrated a need for a marketing director as well as a communication specialist and marketing specialist.

Fields previously served as the Director for Institutional Advancement at Southern Crescent Technical College in Griffin, Ga. During her tenure at SCTC, she was responsible for fundraising for the college by acquiring funds, grants, gifts and scholarships.

The experience that Katheryne gained in her previous roles have made her an excellent choice for this position,” said Montrese Adger Fuller, vice president for Institutional Advancement, External Relations and Marketing. “She will be working in collaboration with our campus partners to promote the exciting things that are taking place at Gordon State College.”

“Brittany’s excellent writing and communication skills will allow her to perform well in this role, and she will be a wonderful addition to our team,” Fuller said.

Tennant earned her bachelor’s degree in Multimedia Journalism and minor in Public Relations from Georgia Southern University. A native of Fayette County, Ga., Tennant and her husband, Harrison, reside in Macon, Ga., and are parents to one-year-old Easton.

HIGH FIRE DANGER IMPACTS OUTDOOR BURNING

The Georgia Forestry Service reminds everyone to be aware of leaf burning and outside burning.

Though burning leaf piles and campfires are hallmarks of fall, Georgia’s current drought is impacting decisions to burn outdoors. The Georgia Forestry Commission is urging everyone to follow established procedures and exercise extreme caution when using fire outside.

“There’s a five step fire danger system used nationally, and right now Georgia is in the four and five categories, indicating very high fire danger,” said Georgia Forestry Commission Chief of Protection Frank Sorrells. “The decision to burn must be made on specific weather criteria in each location, and because safety is always our top concern, burn permitting may be restricted based on the fire danger forecast.”

Burn permits issued by the Georgia Forestry Commission are required for any outdoor burning in the state to help prevent wildfires and problems generated by smoke. In 54 counties, primarily in north Georgia, the Georgia Environmental Protection Division sets annual summer burning restrictions to reduce emissions from ground level ozone that may jeopardize air quality. Those restrictions are set to be lifted on Tuesday, October 1.

“The GFC will resume issuing burn permits on a day to day basis, following our established fire danger and smoke management procedures, in those counties which have been under the EPD Burn Ban since May first,” said Sorrells. “We recognize the importance of and promote prescribed burning for the many wildfire prevention, forest management and agriculture benefits it provides.

However, right now we’re asking everyone to be extremely vigilant when doing any open burning, including burning yard debris.”

Wildfire activity is on the rise statewide, according to Sorrells. Over the past three months, Georgia Forestry Commission wildland firefighters have responded to 41 percent more fires than its previous five-year average. Sorrells said escaped debris burns are the number one cause of wildfires in our state, and it may be necessary and wise to delay or postpone open burning if local conditions are unfavorable. The GFC recommends those who burn keep tools on hand such as

water, a shovel and a cell phone. “Never hesitate to call 911, and never leave your fire unattended” Sorrells said.

The 54 counties whose EPD summer burn bans are being lifted are: Banks, Barrow, Bartow, Bibb, Butts, Carroll, Catoosa, Chattooga, Cherokee, Clarke, Clayton, Cobb, Columbia, Coweta, Crawford, Dawson, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Floyd, Forsyth, Fulton, Gordon, Gwinnett, Hall, Haralson, Heard, Henry, Houston, Jackson, Jasper, Jones, Lamar, Lumpkin, Madison, Meriwether, Monroe, Morgan, Newton, Oconee, Paulding, Peach, Pickens, Pike, Polk, Putnam, Richmond, Rockdale, Spalding, Troup, Twiggs, Upson, Walker and Walton.

For specific information about conducting open burning, permitting requirements and current fire conditions in your area, contact your county’s GFC office or visit GaTrees.org.

Colt Firearms has allegedly reportedly decided to cease AR-15 production for the civilian market according to Colt VP.

Colt Firearms has reportedly decided to cease AR-15 production for the civilian market according to Colt VP.

This will mark the end to some of the most iconic AR-15s ever, as Colts were a go-to AR for consumers as America’s love for the modern sporting rifle emerged in the late 20th century.

Guns.com reports Colt senior VP Paul Spitale indicated the company is shifting away from ARs and toward the class 1911, Colt revolvers, and other guns Americans want for concealed carry. Spitale said:

WE’RE GOING TO FOCUS ON THE PRODUCTS THAT OUR CONSUMERS ARE ASKING FOR. WE’VE EXPANDED OUR 1911S AND OUR REVOLVER LINE, AND THAT MARKET HAS BEEN VERY POSITIVE FOR US.

Shooting Illustrated quoted Spitale saying Colt’s decision to refocus production was based on “customer feedback.”

Spitale made clear Colt’s position on making rifles for civilians could be reversed in the future, if the market changes to support a higher production of modern sporting rifles again. But for now, the 1911, the King Cobra family of revolvers, and similar firearms will be Colt’s focus.

This is a most important move for COLT a long time provider of the M-16  the machine gun issued to the military, and the civilian market AR-15 that has been sold for decades to the general public and has become one of the best platforms for hunters, ranchers, alike. The new AR-15 is being built by all major manufacturers of Firearms, and independent manufacturers as well. The rifle can have the upper half of the weapon that includes the barrel can be changed for new and excellent deer hunters in many and varying excellent hunting rounds.  It has become one of the best for those individuals that shoot long range targets as well. Most all of the current Long Range Matches are using this rifle. The Civilian AR 15 is a semi automatic rifle and is not designed for automatic fire. (what most people think of as a machine gun it is not, nor was it ever designed to be.

Most firearms dealers and the American Rifle Association has not mentioned this in their latest issue of American Hunter or American Rifleman magazines.
