Two accidents within an hour of each other occurred on Monday afternoon on Highway 19 and Highwya 41 in Pike County. One accidnet took the life of a Pike County resident.

On Monday afternoon units of the Pike County Sheriff Department, Pike EMS, and Emory Air Flight based at the Griffin Spalding Airport responded to a two car head on collision on highway 19 just south of Moody Funeral home near McKinley Road at Approximately 3;45 pm Monday just north of Zebulon. When ground ambulance arrived at the location it was determined that Two  patients one of which was in serious condition and would need to be airlifted to Atlanta.  As the Helicopter air ambulance arrived at the scene the patient flat lined then EMT personnel recovered her and later the Pike County resident identified as Lassandra Buttman was pronounced deceased at Spalding Regional Hospital. A second patient was also sent to Spalding Regional for further treatment. Initial reports indicated that the accident occurred when one vehicle crossed the center line and collided head on whit another passenger car. There was three vehicles involved in the incident.The collision remains under investigation.
Pike Sheriff Jimmy Thomas told wkeu news that as the scene of the accident on Highway 19 was being cleared a second accident had occurred requiring Traffic Investigators to respond to Highway 41 in the area of New Hope Road. One vehicle was found to be overturned upon arrival. Only minor injuries occurred from the accident. Deputies indicated that failure to yield while trying to enter Highway 41 by a GMC Sierra caused the collision with a Ford Ranger. The seventeen year old male driver was cited for failure to yield right of way.
