GBI agents had contacted Gibson and his attorney earlier and the two met the Agents at the Sheriff’s Office where Gibson was taken into custody. Gibson had a hearing before the Spalding County magistrate Judge on Thursday the 10th and bond was denied. In cases of this type the hearing had to be before a Superior Court Judge. Judge Mack Crawford set the bond at 130,000.00. And Gibson had to be taken to Upson County to post bond for the Stalking Charge that occurred in Upson County. Gibson was returned form Clayton County to the Spalding County jail and Sheriff Beam said that the booking area at the jail was cleared until Gibson posted bond, and was taken to Upson County to post bond there.
A formal Complaint was signed in May on Gibson which is require for Sheriff Beam to take action on a Spalding County Employee and he immediately contacted an outside agency to conduct an internal affairs investigation. The investigation started May 1st, and ended May21st. The investigation was over 300 pages in length. On the 21 st of May Sheriff Beam offered Gibson a chance to resign or be terminated. Gibson resigned May 21st and a press release was issued by Sheriff Beam on May 22nd.
In a separate issue: It must be noted that WKEU news received a telephone call from a concerned citizen that a posting on the internet stated that “The Spalding County jail was some type of shut down due to a big incident at the Jail. WKEU news talked with Sheriff Beam who stated this was totally incorrect and that nothing unusual had happed at the jail with the exception of clearing the booking area for the bond of Gibson, his attorney, and the transport of Gibson to Upson County for posting a bond there. WKEU news urges everyone to be sure of what is being said on the internet as there are times that bogus information is accepted as fact. Anyone can post anything on the internet whether it’s valid or not
