For those who have recently received annoying or even threatening phone calls from people claiming to be debt collectors, credit card agencies, or even the police department, trying to obtain cash or credit card information, help is on the way.

On Thursday, July 23, at 6:00 a representative from the Pike County Sheriff’s Department will be on hand at the J. Joel Edwards Public Library in Zebulon to discuss the recent rash of phone scams in this area.

Reports have been made of receiving phone calls from someone stating that there is an active warrant for the person’s arrest. The caller then asks for money to be sent in to prevent the arrest. Several other variations of this phone scam have also been reported in Spalding, Pike, and the surrounding counties.

The Sheriff’s representative will describe some of the different kinds of phone fraud and will offer advice on how to know the difference between these and legitimate service calls and what to do if you are targeted.

This event is free and open to the public. For more information call the library during regular business hours at 770-567-2014.
