Saturday night about 8:00 911 dispatch called the Griffin Police Department, Spalding Fire Rescue, Spalding Regional EMS, Georgia State Troopers, and Deputy Coroner Mike Pryor to the scene of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on the North Expressway. A female pedestrian was struck by a vehicle near the highway 92 interchange as she attempted to cross between McDonald’s and Hardees restaurants.
The Female was identified by Deputy Coroner Pryor as Breanne Michelle Hewer age 35 of Griffin. Next of kin was notified by Deputy Coroner Pryor on Saturday evening. Ms. Hewer lived on Old Atlanta Road. She was transported to Spalding Regional Hospital where she was pronounced deceased about 8:16 pm Saturday Evening.
Coroner Pryor said that this was the second Pedestrian struck and killed on the North Expressway in as many wees, and they were attempting crossed in areas not designated as a crosswalk.
Pryor said that many accidents like this can be avoided if Pedestrians would cross the North Expressway at designated crossing areas, and be extremely alert when crossing. Do not attempt to cross the North expressway in non- designated areas.
