FIVE LOAVES & TWO FISH FOOD PANTRY URGENT NEEDS
Due to the COVID-19 virus, which has resulted in decreased food donations and the manpower to provide those donations, the Five Loaves & Two Fish Food Pantry has experienced great difficulty getting our normal supplies from the metro area’s food banks. We have been blessed with monetary donations of late, but the dollars cannot buy what is not housed in the area food bank warehouses. Consequently, we are issuing an urgent request for canned non-perishable goods, but particularly for the following donated food items:
Peanut Butter – Dried Beans – Rice – Grits – Canned Veggies and Fruits – Canned Meats (Tuna, Beef, etc.)
Please do not bring items in glass containers. Also, because we serve a significant homeless population, any donations of “pop-top” items, such as Vienna sausage, potted meat, fruit/veggie single serving cups, etc. that do not require the use of a can opener and open easily would be greatly appreciated.
We are operating under our “new” schedule of Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday from 8 am until Noon, at least until the Coronavirus pandemic has been controlled. We will operate as a drive-thru for clients that are already in our database. For the majority of our patrons they will not get out of their cars. Patrons will be asked to pull their car into a line, a volunteer will get your picture ID, have you sign a form and will then bring your food to your car.
If you are new to the pantry, you will be asked to park across the street and go to a designated area for your information to be entered into our database. New clients must have a picture ID and Social Security card. If they have additional household members, they will need either a Social Security card or birth certificate for each person in the household.
The number of new households requesting food has increased steadily and exponentially with the current pandemic conditions, and we expect that to continue. However, at the same time our food donations have drastically reduced. So, we would greatly appreciate any food item donation.

But please consider in earnest the donation of food items in this time of great need. We subscribe to the Dalai Lama quote that holds, “It is under the greatest adversity that there exists the greatest potential for doing good, both for oneself and others.” This is, indeed, such a time.
