WKEU has received numerous calls in relation to the City of Griffin making several changes to include a new Chief at the Griffin Police Department. Several sources have advised WKEU news that there are two forced retirements of high ranking officers, and a reduction of one major to Captain planned, as well as a move of the current chief to another position. One caller said that the high ranking officers both with Masters degrees were offered entry level positions they could apply for. It is not known how much time the officers in question have with the city but more information will be available later. Another caller stated that the City was trying to save money by the move, however the Griffin Police Department currently is one of the most respected agencies in the area, and no law enforcement agency should be considered as money making operation, they are a service organization and not designed to be a revenue generating operation unless they are under pressure to write additional tickets for traffic violations, or code violations. The Commissioners will meet on Tuesday night and WKEU will bring you more information about this issue following the meeting, should more information be released.
