A Lamar County Deputy Lt. Chris Webster of the Lamar Sheriffs Office is in ICU at Spalding Regional Medical Center after being bitten once on each foot by a copperhead.
Webster had stopped to look at the unusually marked snake on Roberta Drive near the Wetlands Trial Sunday evening when he was bitten. He is receiving anti-venom treatments.
He is the son of John and Maureen Webster of Barnesville. His wife, Tasha, is longtime office manager/circulation director at The Barnesville Herald Gazette.
An elderly woman from Hwy. 18 in Lamar was also bitten by a copperhead Sunday Lamar Officials are asking the citizens to be especially aware in grassy and wet areas and be on the lookout for snakes.
