A Dec. 5 house fire in southeast Fayette County at 909 Grant Road, near the Spalding County line claimed the life Robert “Bobby” Ison and his wife, Tommie. According to officials Ison ran Ison’s towing service in Brooks.Pete Nelms of the Fayette County Fire and Emergency Services said the fire was reported at 7:56 a.m. after Barbara McCallister, the daughter of Bobby Ison and his wife, returned from taking her children to school.Nelms said McCallister reported smoke and fire at the small wood frame residence.
The fire call was dispatched at 7:58 a.m. and the fire units arrived at 8:03 a.m.
Firefighters said that upon arrival they saw heavy fire with approximately 75 percent of the structure involved, Fire personnel fought the blaze and it took over an hour to get the fire under control t allow firefighters to enter the remainder of the building and search for victims.
Once inside, the remaining structure fire department personnel found the two victims, both deceased, along with three animals that had also died in the smoke and flames.
The Fayette Fire Marshal is still investigating the incident and more information will be released after the investigation is complete.
