SPALDING COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY:

WANTS TO REMIND EVERYONE WINTER IS COMING AND NOW IS THE TIME TO PREPARE

winter weather prep

Winter Weather Preparedness Week is December 1-8, 2014 and is the perfect time to make sure you’re ready for whatever “Old Man Winter” has in store. Winter weather can become dangerous quickly, as many Georgians experienced just last year. To make sure you are not caught off guard, it’s important to prepare before there are any storms on the horizon.

Ready Georgia recommends that you prepare for at least 72 hours after an emergency. Check out the Spalding County website for a list of easy-to-find and affordable items that should be included in your Ready Kit. You should also pack a Ready Kit for your car during the winter.

In addition to the standard items like food, water and a flashlight, consider adding:

Ice scraper

Blankets

Sand or kitty litter for traction

Jumper cables

A portable phone charger

Printed local maps in case your phone runs out of battery

Ready Georgia, a statewide emergency preparedness campaign established by the Georgia Emergency Management Agency/Homeland Security and supported by Spalding County EMA. This website offers the tools needed to make an emergency supply kit, develop a communications plan and stay informed about potential threats. Visitors to Ready Georgia’s website, www.ready.ga.gov, can create an online profile to receive a tailored plan for the entire family that includes the specific amount of supplies needed for their household Ready Kits. They can also find local emergency contact information, learn about Georgia-specific disasters and download Ready Georgia’s free mobile app to learn how to prepare for emergencies, create family communications plans and more.
