Pike County Sheriff Jimmy Thomas has advised WKEU news that his investigators have arrested Joseph Drake, age 32, in connection with the early Wednesday morning smash and grab burglary at the Rock Store in Pike County. Taken during the theft were numerous lottery tickets, cigarettes and the cash drawer for the business. Drake was identified through video surveillance after cashing in some of the stolen lottery tickets in Upson County.

A search warrant was served on his residence, and with the assistance of the Upson County Sheriff’s Office, additional evidence was located that linked him to the crime.

It was also discovered through the investigation that Rusty Nolan, age 34, had assisted Drake in redeeming the stolen lottery tickets at several businesses in Thomaston. Investigators conferred with the Thomaston Police Department who have subsequently charged both individuals with passing the stolen lottery tickets for cash.

Drake is being charged with smash and grab burglary in Pike County and he will face charges in Thomaston as well.
