Griffin Man Dominque Franklin age 36 faces another 65 years in Federal Judicial System.

A Georgia man guilty of a string of armed robberies after a release from prison now faces an additional 65 years behind bars after pleading guilty in federal court.

Lawrence Dominque Franklin, age 36, of Griffin, was arrested in Midtown Atlanta late last year after attempting to force a female into her car at knife point.

Police said the woman was walking to her car on 10th Street around 3 a.m. on Dec. 2 when Franklin approached her from behind, use a knife and forced her into the vehicle. As he attempted to leave, Franklin was stopped by people who heard her screaming for help and held him down until Police arrived at the scene.

Investigators found Franklin had only been out of jail since July 2019 after serving nearly 11 years for armed robbery and weapons convictions in Muscogee County.

Two days before his arrest, Franklin robbed a Subway on Moreland Avenue in Atlanta,  and a Dollar Tree on Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard in about six hours.

The day previous Franklin attempted to hold up a Wells Fargo in Newnan by flashing a pistol in his waistband and giving the teller a note instructing her to open the safe.

Franklin’s crime spree began one week before his arrest when he robbed a Wells Fargo in Columbus while wearing a fluorescent construction worker vest. Later he robbed a Dollar General in Savannah while wearing the same vest, according to investigators there. Franklin  forced an employee to open the safe and left the scene with about $6,000.

“Within a matter of days, Franklin terrorized employees and customers in three communities across Georgia.

Federal Prosecutors consolidated all of  Franklin’s charges and he recently pleaded guilty to armed robbery, bank robbery and interference with commerce by robbery. He now faces 65 additional Years in Federal prison.
