The search for a Butts County inmate that escaped on Sunday ended Monday Butts County, Bibb Sheriffs Deputies, and Georgia State Troopers captured the escapee and his accomplice.
On Sunday, Monroe and Butts County deputies as well as other law enforcement agencies searched for 32-year-old Anthony Shepherd. He was the inmate that worked in a work detail at the Butts County Animal Control that walked away from the scene. He met an accomplice in a black vehicle.
Shepherd and the woman accomplice, Terri Marie Dixon, became the focal point of a search that included several counties in middle Georgia. The two managed to elude law enforcement in Monroe and Macon-Bibb Counties.
Deputies said Shepherd was driving the vehicle that attempted to run over the Butts County Sheriff Gary Long. Authorities were able to recover the car after a chase.
Warrants were obtained for felony aggravated assault with a motor vehicle for the incident.
Monday morning, deputies were joined by Bibb Deputies, and Troopers from the Georgia State Patrol and tracked down the pair to an abandoned home on Gamble Road in Bibb County.
Following the capture, Sheriff Gary Long said “I am proud to say that the Citizens of Butts County truly have the best men and women in the State protecting and serving them every day. To my staff, congratulations on a job well done! You all continue to amaze me with your hard work, dedication, and relentless pursuit to see justice is served.”
Bibb County deputies and Georgia State Patrol assisted in the capture.
