Two and a half straight months of declines at the gas pump came have come to an end in Georgia as costs took a small jump upward in the past seven days according to information received from AAA, the auto club group. The current average cost per gallon for regular unleaded around the state is $1.64, 3 cents more than a week ago, but still 7 cents lower than last month and $1.04 less than what motorists were paying in May of last year.
Georgia’s average price is this week is 20 cents lower than the national average of 1.84 per gallon.
The Energy Information Administration released new data that showed demand for gasoline increased to a significant degree last week. The boost is demand will likely continue to push prices at the pump higher nationwide as more and more states try to reopen businesses and return to a better sense of normalcy. However, global demand for crude oil is expected to remain diminished as the COVID-19 pandemic tempers costs around the world.
The most expensive gas price averages in the state’s metro markets this week will be found in Hinesville-Fort Stewart at 1.77, Savannah at 1.72 and Brunswick at 1.70 while the least expensive gas price averages are located in Rome at 1.53, Catoosa-Dade-Walker at 1.56 and Warner Robins, also at 1.56.
AAA reports that the average price per gallon for regular unleaded in the Griffin-Spalding County market matches the state average of 1.64 while a check of the website gasbuddy.com shows that local drivers are seeing prices ranging anywhere from a low of 1.46 to a high of 1.89.
