The Georgia Supreme Court this week ruled to deny the appeal made by convicted child murderer Shane Clifton Collett who was found guilty of the murder of 9 year old Skylar Dials .
Collett’s defense team sought to overturn his conviction in the December 2012 murder, citing a lack of convincing evidence in the case but the state’s highest court ruled that sufficient evidence was presented beyond a reasonable doubt, and that the conviction and sentence of life without the possibility of parole, would stand.
Skylar Dials was walking to a friend’s house on the morning of Friday, December 21, 2012 when she was abducted by Collett and murdered. Following his arrest early the following morning, he was charged with the offenses of malice murder, felony murder, concealing a death and first degree cruelty to children.
He was convicted by a jury in Spalding County Superior Court in January of 2015.
