IRISH TENOR ROAN TYNAN
The Griffin Area Concert Association is excited to announce that world renowned Irish Tenor Ronan Tynan is coming to Griffin. If you watched any of the memorial service on Wednesday December 5th for President George H. W. Bush, you saw the incredible Irish tenor Ronan Tynan sing two songs; “Last Full Measure of Devotion” and “The Lord’s Prayer”. His performances brought many to tears. Tynan is a good friend of President Bush-41 and actually sang Silent Night to him at Bush’s home in Houston just moments before he passed away.
Tynan is known the world over as America’s Irish Tenor. A long time member of the Irish Tenors, Ronan has been a fixture singing God Bless America at sporting events and other national celebrations since 9-11-2001. Born with underdeveloped lower legs, he had both legs amputated below the knee at age 20. Within a year, Tynan was winning in international competitions in track and field athletics. He represented Ireland in the 1984 and 1988 Summer Paralympics, winning four golds, two silvers, and one bronze medal. Between 1981 and 1984, he won 18 gold medals from various competitions and set 14 world records. Tynan went on to become a physician specializing in orthopedic sports injuries. Encouraged by his father to also study voice, Tynan won a series of voice competitions and was asked to join the Irish Tenors. Today he is the premier Irish tenor performing in the world.
