A tree fell across a power line close to 18th street on Thursday about 345 pm as it did a transformer exploded cuting power for much of western griffin business district and residential sections.

Thursday around mid afternoon a tree fell on a power line close to 18th street causing the transformer nearby to explode.

Power was interrupted to much of the business district in western Griffin, and may residential sections including the Griffin Police Department.

911 indicated that power crews and maintenance crews from the City responded to the scene to cut debris away and install a new transformer.

Traffic was tied up much of the afternoon and Griffin Police were manually conducting traffic at intersections that were without power.

There were no reported injuries from the incident.
