About 1:00 pm on Thursday afternoon units of the Spalding Sheriffs Department, Spaldng Fire Department, Spalidng Regional EMS, and Emory Air Flight based at the Griffin Spalding Airport responded to a two vehicle accident in the North bound lanes of The North Expressway, Highway 19/41, close to Birdie Road.
Res-ponders indicated that a small Chevrolet passenger vehicle struck the back of a large Griffin City Truck that supports roll off containers. Investigators said the vehicle was being driven by a 80 year old man from Griffin. The impact tore the roof almost off the Chevrolet and the passenger, according to officials, was having problems breathing when the decision was made to airlift the man to to the Atlanta Medical Center. The incident is under investigation by the Griffin Post of the Georgia State Patrol.
