The Spalding County Commissioners Met Monday Night at 6 pm in the meeting room in the Courthouse annex.
During the County Commission meeting on Monday night the commissioners aappointed Pat McDaniel and Donna Grant to the Spalding County Animal Care and Control Advisory Board.
Following discussion the Commissioners tabled for further review a Resolution to Cover Emergency Management Team Members under the County’s workers’ compensation insurance.
They also approved a Memorandum of Understanding between A.D. Smith Community Services, Inc.,the Spalding County Board of Commissioners and the Spalding County Collaborative Authority for Families and Children, Inc. to provide for administration and operation of the USDA Summer Food Service Program. The Recreation Department has served as the Grant Administrator and operated the USDA Summer Food program in the past at a loss to the County. A.D. Smith Community Services Inc. will administer and operate the Summer Food Program at no cost to the County this year. The MOU has been reviewed and approved by County Attorney Jim Fortune.
The Commissioners approved adoption of a resolution authorizing the FY 2015 Community Services Block Grant Program. Total funding approved for FY 2015 (October 1 2014- September 30, 2015) is $110,440.00 This is Meals on Wheels along with Salvation Army after School Student tutoring,
Approved authorizing Fire Department to apply for an Assistance to Firefighters Grant to purchase the Bulls Eye Fire Extinguisher Training System. The Fire Department would like to apply for the Bulls Eye Fire Extinguisher Training System. The quote for the system is $12,605.65 and requires a 5% grantee match. The Spalding County portion of the grant would be $630.29. The deadline to submit the grant application is March 21, 2014.
The Commissioners also approved March 24 th as the date for a workshop to discuss limitations of domestic animals in residential zoning districts. As mentioned by Commissioner Ray during Commissioners Comments at the March 3, 2014 Meeting and requested by residents of the Woodland Road area.
Approved March 31, April 4, and April 7 if needed, beginning at 9.00 Am for Personnel Ordinance workshops .
Commissioner Ray talked with the Commissioners in relation to the airport there is a lot of misinformation and old information that is creating confusion. We need to get together and vote as to where we go from here.
Commissioner Flowers asked, “What are you going to be voting on? I can see getting information but we’re not ready to vote.”
Commissioner Johnson agreed with Commissioner Flowers and said, “We need to be visionary and thinking about the future.”
The commissioners decided to have an airport update at the next meeting.
