In Lamar County a woman was found dead of gunshot wounds Thursday morning at a home at 157 Liz Acres Road, which is located off Highway 341. The deceased female was identified as Elaine Brown McGuire, age 70. Initial repots indicated she suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Her son David Lewis McGuire Jr. has been charged with murder, according to Sheriff Brad White.
The GBI crime scene specialist from Perry was at the home along with Lamar County Sheriffs Units and Barnesville Police Department personnel.
David McGuire was originally detained at the scene because he was highly intoxicated, according to Sheriff White.
The body was taken to the State Crime Lab in Atlanta by Trice Funeral Home for a determination as to the cause of death. There may be additional charges against David McGuire.
