A high speed vehicle chase that started in Upson County on Saturday Night ended in a spectacular crash in downtown Barnesville. Upson Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle while on regular patrol and the vehicle sped away leading them on a high speed chase into Lamar County then into Barnesville.
At one point in the chased, stop sticks were used in an attempt to slow the speeding car. The spikes successfully and flattened the vehicles tires but the driver continued an attempt to elude officers. Witnesses indicated the fleeing car went through the intersection at Flash Foods in excess of 100 mph on just three wheels.
The driver later jumped a curb in downtown Barnesville and took out a tree in front of DB’s Pizzeria. The undercarriage of the vehicle was torn away from its supports and the vehicle came to a stop.
The driver then attempted to elude officers on foot but was apprehended a short time later.
