Units from The Pike County Sheriff’s Office, Pike County Fire Department, and Emory Air Flight all responded to a one vehicle accident on Highway 18 Monday afternoon. A 7-year-old child was life flighted to Egleston, while an 11-year-old child was transported by ambulance to an area hospital.
The 7 year old’s injuries were not thought to be life threatening but as a precautionary measure the 7 year old was transported to Egleston. The van, which contained the driver and two children, left the highway, hit a culvert, knocking the skid plate completely off and continued for several more yards before coming to a rest. Pike County Sheriff’s Office traffic investigators are still determining the exact cause of the accident but believe the driver was distracted at the time of the wreck.
